Dance Education
Aleta’s primary teacher is her mother, Aliya, who has performed and taught for over twenty-five years in
Maryland, Boston, and Germany.
Aleta has also attended professional level training seminars, including Middle Eastern Dance Camp (MA),
Folktours Music and Dance Camp (PA), Rakassah (NJ, CA) and Ahlan wa Sahlan (Cairo). Among countless
other workshops, she has attended three or more workshops by Morocco (NY), Artemis (MD), and Faten
Salama (VA, Cairo).

Aleta is a Raqs Sharqi dancer who has performed professionally since 1989. She is
particularly noted for her work with circular veil, odd rhythms, and isolations.
Percussion Education
Aleta has studied Middle Eastern and Balkan percussion with Brad Sidwell, and has taken drum workshops with
Seido Salifoski, Karim Nagi (Turbo Tabla), Daveed Korup, Souren Baronian, and Ahmed Sultan (private 2-hour
lesson in Cairo).
Aleta has performed as a drummer professionally with the Blue Dragons band, and accompanied dancers on
stage at Rakkasah East and at Ahlan Wa Sahlan dance festival in Cairo.
Aleta's musical knowledge has also benefited greatly by working 5+ years at the House of Musical Traditions,
developing a working knowledge of musical instruments from around the world.
